HopingHands autism guide

Co-occurring conditions

Autistic people may also have other health, developmental or learning conditions. Each deserves recognition and appropriate support.

01

Common does not mean inevitable

ADHD, anxiety, epilepsy, sleep differences, learning disabilities, dyspraxia and digestive or eating difficulties are reported more often among autistic people, but experiences vary.

02

Look beyond autism

New pain, distress or behaviour changes should not automatically be attributed to autism. Physical and mental health concerns deserve proper assessment.

03

Joined-up support

Families should not have to coordinate every service alone. Clear communication between health, education and community teams can reduce gaps.
