Spiky profiles

A spiky profile means a person’s skills and support needs can vary greatly across areas—and from one situation to another.

01

Ability is not a straight line

Someone may use complex language yet need help with daily living, or excel academically while finding transitions and sensory environments exhausting.

02

Performance changes with load

Stress, pain, uncertainty, sensory input and fatigue can temporarily reduce access to skills. This is not laziness or manipulation.

03

Plan for the whole person

Support should respond to actual need rather than assumptions based on age, speech, grades or one strong skill.
